Facility improvements taking place at Gloucester parks

A number of improvements have been completed recently at Beaverdam Park in Gloucester.

Meanwhile, improvements underway at Abingdon Park are expected to be completed later this fall, said Patti McGrath, the county’s Superintendent of Parks.

A major effort was completed in recent weeks to make Beaverdam Park more accessible to handicapped people, McGrath said. A handicapped- accessible pad was installed by the floating fishing pier, and a sidewalk leads from there past the boats to the kayak launch on the Roaring Springs Road side of the park. Also, sidewalk was placed on the Route 606 side of the park to make it easier for everyone to get to the boat launch and playground.

The bathroom building on the Roaring Springs Road side, which was closed for several months while it was reconfigured, is now open again. A portable toilet had been placed on site during that construction for park guests.
