THURSDAY

DAFFODILS: The Gloucester Daffodil Club will meet at 4 o’clock this afternoon, Thursday, May 14, at Brent and Becky’s Bulbs, Gloucester.

TOURISM: The Gloucester Tourism Advisory Committee will meet at 4 o’clock this afternoon, Thursday, May 14, in the Stewart Building conference room, 6382 Main Street, Gloucester.

CONCERTS ON THE GREEN: The Clan McCool Band will perform a pirate-themed concert from 5:30-7:30 tonight, Thursday, May 14, in the Concerts on the Green Summer Series at the Gloucester Court Circle, 6504 Main Street, Gloucester. The concert is free and open to the public.

FRIDAY

OYSTER TOUR: Oyster Seed Holdings will have tours and tastings at its oyster hatchery from 5-9 p.m. Friday at 425 Callis Wharf Road, Grimstead. The cost is $25. Book a tour at thehatcheryculture.com/tours.

PATRIOTIC CONCERT: The Mathews VA250 Committee is sponsoring a Patriotic Concert by the Courthouse Community Orchestra at 7 p.m. Friday in the Harry M. Ward Auditorium at Mathews High School. Admission is free.

SATURDAY

MASTER GARDENERS: Roses will be the topic of an informational session sponsored by the Gloucester Master Gardeners at 10 a.m. Saturday at Brent and Becky’s Bulbs, 7900 Daffodil Lane, Gloucester. It is free and open to the public.

DEMOCRATS: The Mathews County Democratic Committee will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday in the community room at Chesapeake Bank, 10839 Buckley Hall Road, Mathews. Those attending are asked to enter from the rear of the building. For more information, contact mathewsvademocrats@gmail.com.

ABINGDON DAY: Abingdon Day will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Abingdon Episcopal Church, 4645 George Washington Memorial Highway, Gloucester. There will be vendors; free carnival games, bounce house, and train rides; a corn hole tournament; cake walks; and human slot machines. Food will be available for purchase.

SUNDAY

BOOK TALK: Author Patti Procopi will give a talk on the steps involved in writing a mystery novel at 2 p.m. Sunday at Gloucester Library, Main Street Center. For ages 18 and older.

HISTORIC HOME TOUR: The early 19th century home and gardens of Providence will be open for small group tours from 2-5 p.m. Sunday hosted by the Mathews County Historical Society to benefit the Tompkins Cottage Lift Fund. Tickets are $65, available at the Mathews County Visitor and Information Center on Main Street, Mathews.

MONDAY

DEMOCRATS: The Gloucester County Democratic Committee will meet at 6 p.m. Monday at Abingdon Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad Station 3, 2676 Hayes Road, Hayes. The guest speaker will be Jason Knapp, who is one of the candidates running for the party’s endorsement for Congress. This will be a hybrid meeting, also accessible on Zoom. TUESDAY

NARFE: Middle Peninsula Chapter 1757 of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association will meet at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the private dining building behind Damon & Company restaurant, 7104 George Washington Memorial Highway, Gloucester. Sara Marston, Wellness Engagement Manager for Gloucester and Newport News Riverside medical centers, will provide information on these centers.

HISTORICAL COMMITTEE: The Gloucester Historical Committee will meet at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Gloucester Library, Main Street Center.

LAB NIGHT: The Fairfield Foundation will have Lab Night from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at 6783 Main Street, Gloucester. Volunteers will help clean and process artifacts from current excavations.

SUPERVISORS: The Gloucester County Board of Supervisors will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the colonial courthouse, 6504 Main Street, Gloucester.

SUICIDE PREVENTION: Middle Peninsula-Northern Neck Behavioral Health will offer Safetalk Suicide Prevention Training from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 20, in the Bay Transit conference room, 5959 Fiddlers Green Road, Gloucester.

PET STORY TIME: Pet Story Time will be held from 1-1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 20, at the Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society Animal Shelter, 6620 Jackson Lane, Gloucester.

SOCIAL SERVICES: The Mathews Social Services Board will meet at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, May 20, in the human services building on Church Street.

BZA: The Mathews Board of Zoning Appeals will meet at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 20, in the historic courthouse on Court Street.

RURITAN CLUB: The Piankatank Ruritan Club will hold its monthly dinner meeting at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 20, at the club building at 7138 Buckley Hall Road in Hudgins. All those interested in the club’s civic endeavors are encouraged to attend the free dinner meeting.
