Events center being proposed for Flat Iron

The Gloucester County Board of Zoning Appeals will hold a public hearing at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the colonial courthouse to consider the application to establish an events center on Flat Iron Road at the entrance to Ware Neck.

Applicant and property owner Raymond Friend has requested a special exception to the county’s zoning ordinance for establishment of a recreation and amusement enterprise. The subject property is located at 7709 Flat Iron Road, lies in the Ware Magisterial District, and is zoned Rural Business (B-4).

Friend said in his application that the property, located at the northeast corner of the intersection of Daffodil Lane and Flat Iron Road, is currently unimproved, “save for an abandoned building believed to be the remains of a former gas station and last used as an auto repair facility.” That building is proposed to be demolished, he said, to make way for a new, 5,000-square-foot structure.
