EVELYN HAYNES LEIGH

Evelyn Haynes Leigh, age 88, of Gloucester, Va., passed away on Monday, May 25, 2015, at Heron Cove at Sanders with loving family nearby.

Born and raised in Gloucester County, she was the daughter of Edgar Haynes and Lessie Coates Haynes. She spent most of her adult life as a grocery merchant, first at a community store at Ordinary, Va., later at Rich’s, and finally with Leigh’s Market, the Main Street grocery store that she and her husband owned for 28 years until the store closed its doors in 1993.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin E. (Buck) Leigh, and her brother, William Haynes. 

She is survived by her son, Benjamin Leigh Jr. (Janet), and grandchildren, Bernardette Riffe (Christopher), Benjamin Leigh III (Kerry), and Rebecca Leigh (Sean Rae), as well as great-grandchildren, Lilly, Brendan, Ethan and Samuel. She is also survived by her sister, Barbara Wright (Harold).

The family will receive friends at Andrews Funeral Home & Crematory on Friday, May 29, 2015, from 6:30-8 p.m. A memorial service will be held at the home of Benny and Janet on Saturday, May 30, 2015, at 2 p.m.
