EUNICE BROWN JENKINS

Eunice Brown Jenkins, 100, of Bena, died peacefully at Walter Reed Convalescent Center on March 31, 2014.

She was born in Coke, Va., and lived her entire life in Gloucester, graduating from Botetourt High School in 1933. She was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church and its oldest member.

As a devout wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, you could find her most days working in her flower garden. She always said she “wanted to have her flowers while she was alive in order to enjoy them.” When it was cold and she could not work outside she would be doing needlework inside. Her family is proud of how she overcame great obstacles in her later years never complaining.

She was predeceased by her parents, Boyd and Bertha Brown; brothers, Malahon Horsley, Milton Brown, Nicholas Brown (Dorothy), Jones Brown (Jean); sisters, Adell Jenkins (David), Hattie Christensen (Alvin), Audrey Oliver (Monroe); husband, Jack of 70 years, and son-in-law, Leonard Hampton.

She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Jackie Hampton; brother, Woody Brown (Elizabeth); grandson, Wade Hampton (Jennifer); her beloved twin great-granddaughters, Sydney and Cate, as well as a number of nieces and nephews. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Hazel Jenkins, Beatrice Horsley and Vashti Wilcher (Melvin), and dear friends, Beuna and Dave Craft and Gloria Peaks.

A funeral service, conducted by the Rev. Clarence Hilling, the Rev. James Draper and the Rev. Carol Bookwalter, was held at noon on Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point. Interment followed in Rosewell Memorial Garden Cemetery. The family received friends Tuesday, April 1, 2014, from 7-8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

A sincere thanks to Dr. Donald Tschan and Nancy and her extended family at Walter Reed Convalescent Center for their support and care for the last four years, and a special thanks to Hospice of Virginia for all their comfort.
