Eugene M. Callis, 81, of Gwynn’s Island, Va., passed away on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2015, at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital with his family by his side. 

Eugene loved hunting, fishing, gardening and most importantly his family. We will always miss his great sense of humor and his jokes. 

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Peggy Diggs Callis; one sister, Mabel Matthews; his children, Ronald Callis, Tammy Powell (Charles Jr.), Pamela Hudgins (Brad), and Steve Callis (Jessica); grandchildren, Jason Powell (Kristin), Bryan Powell (Sarah), Nichole Byrd (Jason), Ashley Callis (Timmy), Victoria Callis, and Bailey and Braden Hudgins; six great-grandchildren; several nieces; nephews, and other loving family members. 

The family received friends on Monday, Oct. 12, 2015, from 6-8 p.m. at Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home, Mathews, Va. A funeral service was held in the funeral home chapel on Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2015, at 2 p.m., with burial following in Gwynn’s Island Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jason Powell, grandson; Bryan Powell, grandson; Bailey Hudgins, grandson; Braden Hudgins, grandson; Jerry Dehoux, friend and family; Shawn Callis, niece; Wayne Lewis, friend; Ronald Brown, brother-in-law, and David Diggs, brother-in-law.
