Essay: What This Nation, and its Anniversary, Means to Me

Eloise Leslie, Rising Freshman at MHSMathews, Va. This year is the United States of America’s 250th anniversary. I have lived in the USA for my entire life. In those years I have grown up in Mathews County, Virginia. Living in Mathews has been a fulfilling experience, being able to appreciate the views of the water, the natural aspects, and the welcoming people. When I am exploring Mathews, I always respect the beautiful outdoors, but also how it came to be. Virginia was one of the first places settlers touched and those settlers paved the way for generations after them. People underestimate how much the settlers impacted today’s life. Without them the founding fathers would not have created The Declaration of Independence, giving us freedom from Great Britain many years ago and that is the reason we celebrate the 250th anniversary.This nation to me means natural beauty, not only in Mathews but the entire country.
