‘Esmeralda’

The Chilean Navy’s sail training tall ship “Esmeralda” returns to Norfolk this Sunday, Aug. 6 through Thursday, Aug. 10. This will be the ship’s only U.S. port stop during its 2023 sail training cruise. Arriving at 10 a.m. Sunday, the 372’ vessel will dock at Otter Berth next to the Waterside District at 333 Waterside Drive, on the Downtown Norfolk Waterfront. The Esmeralda will be open to the public for free tours from 2-6 p.m. Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday, departing Norfolk at 4 p.m. next Thursday. During her visit to Norfolk, she will carry a crew of nearly 300 midshipmen, enlisted sailors, and officers. She has visited more than 300 ports worldwide, acting as a floating embassy for Chile. Esmeralda’s visit is sponsored by Norfolk Festevents, Ltd., and the City of Norfolk, with support from the U.S. Navy, USCG, Virginia Pilot Association, Robins Marine LLC, W.F. Magann Corporation, Waterside Marina, and City Cruises Norfolk.
