ERTHA LEE CLARKE

Ertha Lee Clarke, 93, of Bohannon, Virginia, went home peacefully on Monday, April 25, 2022, to be with our Lord and Savior. She was born to Flave and Louise Hudgins on Nov. 30, 1928, and was an only child.

Ertha Lee attended the Peninsula School in Bohannon and was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church. She was employed for 26 years as a cafeteria worker in the Mathews County School System and retired at the age of 72. She was dedicated to attending and participating in all of her children’s and grandchildren’s events and was always there to lend a helping hand anyway she could. She had love for everyone she met and always put her family and friends before herself. Her kindness and generosity will live on forever and her commitment to her family excelled in every way. She was “Nanny” to all nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. She didn’t love one more than the other and always made sure they knew that.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert (Jimmy) Clarke; her father, Rufus Flave Hudgins, and her mother, Louise Hudgins; a son-in-law, Allen Smith, and a grandchild, Larry Smith.

Ertha Lee is survived by her four children, son, Jimmy Clarke, son, Wayne Clarke (Lynn); daughter, Judy West, and daughter, Phyllis Smith; nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Visitation for family and friends will be held at Faulkner Funeral Homes, Foster- Faulkner Chapel, Mathews, Virginia, from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, April 29, 2022. A funeral service will be held at noon on Saturday, April 30, 2022, at Cornerstone Fellowship Church, Cobbs Creek, Virginia. The doors will be open at 11 a.m. A graveside service will follow in Providence Cemetery in Miles, Virginia.
