Ernest Rudolph West Sr., age 94, of Hayes, surrounded by his family, died at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital on Thursday April 29, 2021. Ernest was a lifelong waterman, having worked on the James River, York River and Chesapeake Bay fishing, crabbing and oystering. He enjoyed country music, a good laugh but most of all he loved his family. Son, Glen Scott West, and daughter, Rosa Goff, preceded him in death. Survivors include his loving wife, Rebecca Kemp Fanning; sons, Ernest West Jr. (Vicky), Ronald Keith West (Viola); two brothers, Frank West Jr., Lawrence West (Pat); seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. The family received friends on Monday, May 3, 2021, from 6-7:30 p.m. at Hogg Funeral Home. Masks were required for entry and social distancing was mandatory. A 2 p.m. funeral service, conducted by the Rev. Jared Berry and Pastor Richard Whiteheart, was held on Tuesday, May 4, 2021, at Union Baptist Church, followed by interment in Rosewell Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
