Equine facility opens in Mathews

Twin Oaks Farm on Route 14 in Mathews is now offering riding lessons and equine-themed birthday parties. In addition, the farm will sponsor two weeklong riding camps this summer.

Trainer Greta Dyer, who is registered with the U.S. Eventing Association, teaches hunter/jumper and Western classes. In addition to spending time in the saddle, students learn basic horsemanship, with lessons on grooming, cleaning tack and mucking stalls. They also study equine anatomy and other topics related to caring for horses.

Dyer will work with horse owners who would like help training their own horses, as well.

For birthday parties, Dyer provides horse-themed crafts and games as well as pony rides at the farm and will even provide food, if necessary. This summer, she will offer a beginner rider camp during the second week in July and an intermediate rider camp with a one-night camping sleepover during the fourth week in July.
