Equalization board completes hearing reassessment appeals

Gloucester’s Board of Equalization finished hearing appeals related to the 2017 general reassessment on Monday. According to county assessor Derek Green, the BOE affirmed all of the assessment department’s values on each of the cases that came before it.

“There was no dollar loss in value on any of the appeals and we had one withdraw, so (there were) 11 official cases,” Green said. “I think it goes without saying that we are super stoked about these results.”

He said the BOE did challenge the model used for the assessment and the calibration of the model. “It truly put our processes to the test and performed its public duty exceptionally,” Green added. “Perhaps the perfect assessment, if you will!”

The 2017 general reassessment, which took effect Jan. 1, showed an overall increase of property values in the county of approximately 1.4 percent compared to the previous reassessment, which took effect in January 2015.
