Entries sought for May Faire pound cake contest

Search for and bring forward your favorite pound cake recipe. Maybe it’s one your grandmother or mother used; or one you discovered. Your mixing and baking can bring you special honors.

For the second year, the Mathews May Faire celebration is sponsoring a pound cake contest. There will be awards made for first, second and third places with a special award for best presentation.

The event is being held on Saturday, May 5, in the main county office building at the court green entrance. Bakers should bring their cakes to the building by 9:30 a.m.; then judging begins.

After judging, with permission from a contestant, his or her cake will be sold to benefit the Mathews County Historical Museum, which sponsors May Faire; however, donating the cake is not a requirement for entering the contest. For more information, call cake chair Betty Wrenn Day, 804-725-2191.
