Enhancement grants approved for Mathews, Gloucester

Two projects in Mathews and one in Gloucester have received transportation enhancement grant funding from the Virginia Department of Transportation, in final actions made last Wednesday.

Preliminary approval had been made in April.

The local projects targeted to receive funding include:

—Mathews County, construction of sidewalks, crosswalks, traffic calming measures, drainage improvements, and landscaping in the Mathews Court House area, project cost $4,356,545, request amount, $376,000, allocation $376,000;

—Mathews County, design and restoration of the New Point Comfort Lighthouse, project cost $1,625,200, request amount $726,000, allocation $726,000;

—Gloucester County, restoration of the Edge Hill Service Station, a 1930 Texaco service station and its surrounding acreage in the Gloucester Court House area, project cost $787,552, request amount $384,824, allocation $384,000.
