Empty Bowls benefit to be held Dec. 6

The Bay School and Hands Across Mathews will host their second annual Empty Bowls soup lunch from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 6, at the Bay School on Main Street in Mathews.

The Empty Bowls Project is an international grassroots effort to raise both money and awareness in the fight to end hunger. All proceeds from the local event will benefit Hands Across Mathews.

Handmade bowls are starting to stack up on the shelves at the Bay School and more are being fired weekly, said a press release. A wide assortment of handmade soups, breads, and cookies will be served, and familiar potters and chefs will be joined by some new hands, both novice and expert.

A $15 ticket includes a handcrafted bowl and a simple lunch of soup and bread to nourish the diner and to serve as a reminder of all the empty bowls in the world, said the release. Only as many tickets as bowls will be sold, although extra servings may be purchased for $5.
