EMORY HERBERT DOTSON

Emory Herbert “Snuffy” Dotson, 65, of Gloucester, passed away Jan. 22, 2015 at Riverside Regional Medical Center.

Emory was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was retired from Busch Gardens as a storeroom manager.

Emory was a friend to everyone, always ready to talk about any subject and truly loved people.

He enjoyed the outdoors, collecting unique items, reading, and sharing his “point of view” with all who would listen. He worked hard at what he loved. Emory has often been described as a “unique individual” and enjoyed every day. He always thought of others before himself and gave freely of his time to anyone in need. His family came first and he will be missed greatly by all, especially his loving pup, Cleo. Emory believed that every day was worth living and we should find something to celebrate daily.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Emory and Ruth Dotson; brothers, Johnny Dotson and Curtis Dotson; and father- and mother-in-law, Eddie and Viola Pharr.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Dotson; brother, Danny Dotson and wife Vera; sister, Emma Lou Harrell; nieces; nephews; great-nieces; great-nephews; and many friends. Danny and nephew Johnny were his best friends and shared many great moments together.

The family received friends Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2015, from 7-8:30 p.m. at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point. A private burial will be at a later date.

In Emory’s memory, contributions may be given to Virginia Peninsula Food Bank, 2401 Aluminum Avenue, Hampton, Va. 23661 or Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue, P.O. Box 1417, Gloucester, Va. 23061.
