Emergency communications

The Middle Peninsula Amateur Radio Club held its monthly meeting on March 1 at the Abingdon Volunteer Fire and Rescue building in Hayes, with the meeting including a hands-on construction of a VHF/UHF antenna. Each member in attendance was given parts of the antenna, plans and tools to complete the project. Working on the antenna here are club members, from left, Al Lambert, Lynn Hales, Jeannie Pendergraft, Joy Safranek, Mark Lowell and past president Kenny Skirvin. This antenna build was held to prepare members in case of disaster where the local repeater system becomes inoperable. MPARC is a local ham radio club fostering community involvement and the art of emergency communication. Future club events are being planned for a local Hamfest, and Field Day held in June. All hams are welcome to the meetings and events. Visit www.mparc.net for more information.
