ELWOOD F. ‘WOODY’ HARRISON JR.

Elwood F. “Woody” Harrison Jr., aged 86, of Mechanicsville, Va., passed away on Sunday, November 30, 2025, at Bon Secours Memorial Regional Medical Center in Mechanicsville. Born in Baltimore, Md., Woody was a very proud patriot and dedicated U.S. Army veteran, serving six years and receiving an honorable discharge in 1968 with the rank of Sergeant. He pursued higher education at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Va., and ultimately earned his degree in business from the University of Maryland. He held numerous leadership roles during his lengthy career as an insurance executive at both state level and national firms. Throughout his life, Woody was recognized as a highly distinguished local and national competitive target shooter, active collector, and reloader. He maintained long-standing affiliations with several organizations, including the Maryland-D.C. Rifle and Pistol Association, 12th Precinct Pistol Club, Anne Arundel Fish and Game Association, Winged Dragon Karate Club, Cavalier Rifle and Pistol Club, Conservation Park of Virginia. Among his many shooting accolades, Woody represented Maryland, D.C., and Virginia state pistol teams, achieved multiple state championships, was a multi-time civilian member of the Presidents 100, a member of the U.S. Mayleigh Cup Pistol Team, and the 2600 Club. Woody contributed to numerous organizations outside of shooting sports as well. He was an active member of the Sons of the Confederate Veterans, New Kent Historical Society, The Honorable Order of the Blue Goose, International, and served as a past president of the Chickahominy Watershed Alliance. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elwood F. Harrison Sr. and Alice V. Harrison. Woody is survived by his wife of 62 years, Virginia G. Harrison of Gloucester, Va.; daughter, Lisa Harrison; sister, Dale Pumphrey (James); nephews, Steven Pumphrey (Joel), and Brian Pumphrey (Tammy); grand-nieces, Madison Bilotti (Chris) and Rori Pumphrey. The family will receive friends at Hogg Funeral Home on Saturday, December 13, 2025, from 10:30- 11:30 a.m., followed by the graveside service at noon at Rosewell Memorial Gardens Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Richard Croxton.
