The Eltham Bridge connecting West Point and New Kent County is the subject of test drawbridge openings this week.

The Virginia Department of Transportation said new electrical equipment to operate the drawbridge was recently installed.

The tests of this equipment will be conducted Friday and next Wednesday, Oct. 7, in two 15-minute intervals between 1-2 p.m., VDOT said.

The bridge carries an average of 21,000 vehicles daily on Route 30/33 across the Pamunkey River, VDOT said.
