ELSIE GERMAN HAYNES

Elsie German Haynes, 95, of Gloucester, passed away on Wednesday, May 24, 2017. 

She was born in Baltimore, Maryland, and was raised in James Store, and was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Elizabeth Soles German.

Elsie retired from Newington Baptist Church in 1993 after 16 years of service as the church secretary, and was a longtime member of Locust Grove United Methodist Church in Dutton, the Eastern Star and the XYZ Club of Bellamy United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis Woodrow Haynes; her son, Benjamin W. Haynes, and her siblings, Elizabeth Lascola, Benjamin German and Nelson German.

She is survived by her sons, Richard F. Haynes and Michael E. Haynes; her brother-in-law, Charles Lascola; her grandchildren, Richard S. Haynes, Julie Legg, Christine Spanjer, Samantha Sepulveda, Brittany Fuller, and Richard Smith, and seven great-grandchildren.

The family received friends on Saturday, May 27, 2017, from 1-2 p.m. at Locust Grove United Methodist Church, with funeral services starting at 2 o’clock. Burial was in Windsor Gardens Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to either Locust Grove United Methodist Church or to Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue. 

Andrews Funeral Home & Crematory, Gloucester, was in charge of arrangements.
