Eloise Harwood Shankle, a faithful follower of Yahweh and a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away on December 29, 2024 at the age of 72 with her family by her side. Eloise was born in Gloucester, Virginia, on June 29, 1952 to John Hughes Harwood and Beatrice Clapp Harwood and will be remembered for her strength, love, and generosity. She dedicated her life to her family, always there with a warm embrace, a listening ear, or lending a helping hand. Eloise enjoyed gardening, canning, and nature. She also dedicated her life to her job. She first started working in 1982 with Dr. Crittenden and then with Dr. Leigh for over 40 years. Eloise was the quintessential band and sports mom and creator of many magical moments for her family and especially her two children: Maggie and Crystal. She devoted countless hours supporting her children with their education, providing advice on personal situations, and through their countless hobbies. Through her cancer journey, she taught those around her what it looks like to live bravely and always with joy and a smile. She was known for her continuous hard work, even until the end. Eloise will forever be a bright, guiding light to her family and loved ones. Eloise’s main focus in life was being the best wife, mother, and grandmother that she could be. Eloise is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Dale W. Shankle; children, Maggie M. Shankle and Crystal E.S. Vasilion, and grandchildren, Quinnie E.V. Vasilion and Theodora L.C. Vasilion.
Visitation, followed by a memorial service, will be held on Sunday, January 5, with the visitation starting at 2 p.m. and memorial service starting at 3 o’clock.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Samaritan’s Purse and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, causes close to Eloise’s heart.
