ELLIS FIELDS

Ellis Fields, 85, of Mathews County, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 29, 2025.

Born on May 22, 1940, to the late Oliver Fields Sr. and Cordelia Ward, Ellis was one of four siblings and a lifelong member of the community.

For over 55 years, Ellis worked at York River Seafood, where his love for working ran deep.

A faithful member of Zion Baptist Church, he lived out his faith through a steady presence and serving the Lord.

He was preceded in death by his son, Antonio Ellis Fields, and brothers, Robert and Oliver Fields Jr.

Cherishing his precious memories are his wife, Lola, to whom he was loving and devoted to for 53 years; three daughters, Denise Jackson, Arinita Holmes, and Kimberly Dixon (Rasheem); sister, Harriett Carter; sisters-in-law, Patricia Fields, Polly Morgan, and Esther Dixon; brothers-in-law, Robert Brooks and Ronald Brooks, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Ellis will be remembered for his kind smile, lovable laugh, gentle spirit, and legacy of love and faith. As we grieve this great loss, we also celebrate a life lived with purpose, humility, and great love. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

Viewing will be held on Thursday, August 7, from 5-7 p.m. at Zion Baptist Church in Cardinal, Va. Funeral service will follow on Friday, August 8, at 1 p.m. at Zion Baptist Church. The church will open at 12 p.m. for an additional hour of viewing before the service. Interment in the Ward Family Cemetery.
