She was born in Norfolk, Va., on June 29, 1919 to the late Edmund Benson and Gladys Williams Winder.

Liz married Franklin James on July 11, 1941; they remained married until Frank’s death on March 25, 2012. Now they are together again. Besides Frank, she was predeceased by her siblings, Eloise Davidson and Tilden Winder.

She was a member of both the Richard Dale Woman’s Club and the Christian Woman’s Club. She and Frank resided in the Portsmouth until their move to assisted living. Liz loved her family, friends, and church. She never met a stranger.

She is survived by her son, Jeff James of Suffolk, Va.; grandchildren, Mallory James, Jay James, Ryan Basham, and Ben James, and many nieces and nephews.

She was especially thrilled to have been able to attend her granddaughter Mallory’s college graduation in 2012.
