ELIZABETH (BETTY BARR) HAWKINS OULD

Elizabeth (Betty Barr) Hawkins Ould, 85, beloved mother and grandmother, died peacefully in Gloucester on Sunday, May 10, 2026. Betty Barr was predeceased by her husband, Edward Hatcher Ould III. She was born in Roanoke, Va., and was the daughter of the late Elizabeth Louise DeShazo Hawkins and Clarence Mortimer Hawkins.

Betty Barr is survived by her brother, Clarence Mortimer Hawkins Jr., and her two children, daughter, Elizabeth Ould Schnabel and her husband Christian, and son, Edward Hatcher Ould IV. She leaves behind five cherished grandchildren, Christian Hawkins Schnabel, Tazewell Burruss Schnabel, Edward Hays Ould, Miriam Ruth Ould, and Theodore Christian Ould, and a special niece, Catherine Brooke Sabin.

Betty Barr was a member of Ware Church, the Gloucester Woman’s Club, the American Daffodil Society, the Ware River Yacht Club, and the Garden Club of Gloucester and Mathews. A service in celebration of Betty Barr’s life will be held on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Ware Church.

In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Ware Episcopal Church, the Garden Club of Gloucester and Mathews, and Friends of the Ware Neck Store.
