Lifelong Gloucester resident Eldridge Wilson Motley Jr. (“E.W.”) passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, November 5, 2023, at his home in Gloucester Point. He was born on September 5, 1952, and was the son of the late E.W. Motley Sr. and Virginia Powell Motley of Hayes. E.W. was a 1970 graduate of Gloucester High School where he was an all-district halfback and an all-district catcher. For many years, he owned and operated The Point Construction Company Inc. E.W. loved “ball,” as he sponsored and played on the Sandmen slow-pitch softball team, coached his children in Little League, umpired, and never missed a game his grandchildren were playing. He had a love of the outdoors that included hunting and fishing, which he proudly passed down to his kids and grandkids. E.W. was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and enjoyed watching NASCAR races. Nothing compared to the love E.W. had for his family as he looked forward to big family gatherings.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Debra Haywood, Cathy Motley, and Eileen Horne. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Jennifer R. Motley; five children, E.W. Motley III (Connie), Amanda Faulkner, Brandy Motley, Christina Trinidad (Ricky), and Daniel Motley (Kirstin); 15 grandchildren, Ridge, Bridget, BreAnna, William, Emily, Kayleigh, Adam, Aleigha, Tyler, Jasmine, Haley, Caleb, Collin, Carson, and Sawyer; two great-grandchildren, Payton and Mylah; two siblings, Betty Jean Hogge (Tom) and Dolores Rinaldo, and a host of family and friends. The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 9, 2023, from 6-7:30 p.m. at Hogg Funeral Home. The funeral service conducted by Pastor Bill West will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, November 10, 2023, at Providence Baptist Church, followed by interment in the church cemetery.
