EDWARD LEE HAWLEY

Edward Lee Hawley, 94, passed away on Friday, Oct. 24, 2014.

Born Nov. 29, 1919 in Newport News, Va., E. Lee Hawley entered the Newport News Shipyard in 1939, graduated from the Newport News Apprentice School and retired from the shipyard after 43 years of service. Upon retirement, Lee moved to Harcum, Va., to his beloved six acres which he fondly called the Ponderosa. A master gardener, he loved to spend his time outside. He loved animals of all kinds.
Lee’s life was a simple one, always trying to do the next right thing. A member of a lost generation, he will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his son, Matthew L. Hawley of Archdale, N.C.;  brother, Robert Hawley of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; sisters, Maude Hawkins of Hampton, and Frances Aron of Richmond; grandchildren, Kacey Hawley Whisler of Ogden, Utah and Lee Clairborne Hawley of High Point, N.C., and great-grandson, Claiborne Hawley.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Andrews Funeral Home & Crematory by Dr. John Snow. Burial was in Windsor Gardens Cemetery.
