The huge ship of government affairs moves slowly, stops slowly, and rarely turns around, because there are so many obstacles to doing so.
Nevertheless, our local voices must be united and loud in the need to turn around the U.S. Coast Guard’s decision, taken with little public notice, to put Station Milford Haven in Mathews on part-time status. That would be just the start; we predict it’s much easier to close a part-time station than one fully operational, and that even worse news would not be far in the future.
Fortunately our representatives in Congress are trying to slow the part-time decision, and First District Rep. Rob Wittman is attempting to arrange a public hearing where our voices can be heard and perhaps listened to.
Until and unless this happens, Tuesday remains the Coast Guard’s deadline to make your opinion known.
Public comment on the proposed downgrade of Station Milford Haven may be made online at www.regulations.gov/docket/USCG-2021-0238.
