Editorial: Thank you, Mr. Wanner

Retired James City County Administrator Sandy Wanner will be leaving us this week after having served as interim county administrator for Gloucester County since May. 

Wanner stepped up to the plate quickly, helping to move Gloucester County forward seamlessly after its previous county administrator Brenda Garton resigned at the end of April to take a job in Frederick County.

During his time at the helm of county government here, Mr. Wanner tried to aid in strengthening the bond between the county’s board of supervisors and school board, a relationship that has been strained over recent years, to say the least.

During the board of supervisors’ Oct. 6, 2015 meeting, Wanner recommended approval of a policy that would have allowed the Gloucester County School Board to automatically use any unspent appropriations at the end of any fiscal year to fund its next fiscal year’s capital projects.
