Mathews Memorial Library in the 21st century has been the successful creation of its longtime director, Bette Dillehay. She brought a very good library to greatness, even winning for it the designation as the best rural library in the nation in 2005.
She has overseen years of growth and expansion. She has brought concerts and lectures and book talks without end. She turned adjacent property into a teen center. She supported programs for children. Programs for Christmas. Support for research into local genealogy and history. Bette Dillehay will leave a mark that is hard to equal.
We take this opportunity to thank her for her long and dedicated service to her home county, and for her unflagging cooperation and support of this newspaper.
A library is a place to learn, to expand one’s horizons, to dig a little deeper into subjects of interest. Bette Dillehay has done a very fine job making it possible for all patrons to find the answers they are looking for.
