Editorial: Spirit of the season

“Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men.”

The words of the angels heralding the birth of Jesus Christ say it all. Regardless of your religious beliefs, or any religious beliefs at all, there’s something undeniably special about this time of year.

It’s a time of giving. A time of coming together as friends and family. A time of stepping away from the endless demands of the day-to-day world and giving thanks for all that we have. It’s a time of peace. Of joyous celebration. And goodwill toward all mankind.

It’s also a time of commercialism that sometimes feels at odds with the spirit of the season. The crowds at Black Friday can be a bit much and the pressures of finding the right gift or hosting the perfect party can distract and frustrate us, making us lose sight of what is truly important. The demands of the season can be overwhelming, if you let them.
