Editorial: Slow down

From a young age, mentors teach us never to make decisions in haste. However, that seems to be what one member of the Gloucester County Board of Supervisors attempted to do last week when he unexpectedly placed a motion on the floor to disallow future discussion on a potential referendum about the renovation project at Gloucester High School. Several board members said the proposal caught them off guard.

York District supervisor Phillip Bazzani’s motion, which was made in good faith out of concern for the taxpayer, essentially failed because it was made in haste at the wrong time. While other members of the board had not had enough time to review all of what the county attorney had provided them in information pertaining to a possible referendum, the public was also unaware that a discussion on the matter would be held last Wednesday night. That night’s meeting was set aside for the public to voice opinions on the proposed budget for the next fiscal year.
