It’s the same old song. And it is true.

Be part of the solution. If you do not like the way your county, state, or nation is being governed, be sure to register to vote … and then to vote.

Civic groups are sponsoring a number of opportunities to hear from candidates. Inform yourself. Follow the news.

Before going to the polls on Election Day, take the time to check on your registration status. You may call the Gloucester registrar’s office at 804-693-3659; the Mathews office, 804-725-3200; or check at the Virginia Department of Elections website, https://vote.elections.virginia.gov. Don’t be one of the registered voters turned away for lack of an approved identification card. That happens.

The deadline to register to vote or to change your registration information before the Nov. 7 election is Monday, Oct. 16.
