Editorial: Ready to return

It is a wonderful thing that many local churches and civic organizations carry out big projects to help our young people start the school year on the right foot. One reads of efforts to fill a bus or a boat with school supplies, give free haircuts, distribute filled backpacks, buy new clothes, and supply school nurses with personal hygiene supplies. All of this is done with the purpose of making it easier for each student regardless of financial circumstances to go to school well-equipped and well-clothed as a new year gets underway.

Tuesday will bring the return of buses to our public highways. We ask motorists to give them and their cargoes plenty of room and plenty of time to stop and to get back underway. Those drivers, up before dawn and late getting home, are carrying our future. We respect what they do.
