This weekend, the Tour de Chesapeake returns to Mathews County. Cyclists from all points of the compass will converge on the county to roll across the flat landscape, taking in the sights and sounds of one piece of paradise.
They will also be on the roads, the main roads and the back roads, singly and in groups. At times motorists stuck behind the cyclists and grow impatient. Please don’t take a chance to rush around a group of bikes. They are almost defenseless against a motor vehicle.
As they come to the county, many returning year after year, we ask our full-time and weekend residents to slow down, wave a welcome, and to share the road so everyone gets home happily and in one piece.
