Editorial: On being prepared

A large section that is part of this week’s paper contains a lot of information about being prepared for some of the things that life throws at you. These include, but are not limited to, home sales and purchases, hurricanes, and senior living.
The things that throw us are the ones you don’t see coming. We frequently hear of a friend who has suddenly been diagnosed with an aggressive disease. Or we have to cut a tree off the roof after a twister. Or the ATM throws back an “insufficient funds” insult … maybe we forgot to check the balance, or maybe someone stole your PIN?
Once in a while it is helpful to disengage from the busy chores of daily living and to think about what can be done to prevent trouble in the future. Think about our belongings, and what we want to happen to them when we are gone. Think about our vehicles, and whether they need maintenance. Think about our bodies, and wonder if a mammogram is overdue.
