Editorial: Now it gets real

2016 is finally here. And before the year is out, the nation will have a new president. While the election is more than 10 months away, the selection process in Virginia begins just 54 days from today.

Virginia will hold a super primary election on Tuesday, March 1: voters will choose delegates for the Republican and Democratic candidates for president, and these delegates will help to select the party nominees during the summer.

The presidential contenders have already been on the trail for up to a year, spending millions and making headlines good, bad and ugly. Now their contest turns toward Virginia.

Expect to see visits from the many faces of the 2016 quest in Virginia. How far into the state will they come? A stop in Northern Virginia? A trip to Richmond? Inspection of the vital military facilities in Hampton Roads? Touring the backroads and getting to know not only the urban faces, but those of the mountains and the Tidewater?
