Editorial: More than a pretty smile

With many out of work and still others worried about their job security, we’ve all had to make sacrifices—from putting off that tropical vacation or fixing a leaky roof to replacing a worn-out car. While there are some things we can do without, our health shouldn’t be one of them.

Fortunately, for Middle Peninsula residents in need, there is the Mission of Mercy Dental Clinic. Now in its third year, the clinic provides a wide assortment of services, from simple cleanings and fillings, to root canals, extractions and dentures—all at no cost.

Last year, approximately 800 people were treated at Gloucester High School, with a small army of volunteer dentists, dental assistants, dental students and many others making this possible, all coordinated by Hayes dentist Chuck Harris and his staff. This year’s clinic will be held on Feb. 25.
