Editorial: More light, less heat

It’s beginning to heat up.

We’re not talking about the arrival of summer next Friday, but the 2020 presidential campaign. Hard to believe, but even though voters won’t head to the polls for another 509 days, the presidential campaign season appears to be in full swing.

Iowa played host to 19 of the 24 Democratic Party candidates (yes, a full two dozen) presidential hopefuls this past weekend at the Iowa Democratic Party’s Hall of Fame dinner, as they jockey for position in that state’s all-important early caucus.

And while current front-runner Joe Biden wasn’t in attendance, the former vice president arrived in Iowa soon after and immediately took aim at President Trump, calling him “an existential threat” to the country. Trump wasted no time ripping into Biden, calling him a “dummy” and “the weakest mentally” of the Democratic field.
