We are delighted to read that an established company is considering constructing housing for senior citizens in Mathews County.

This has been a goal, for many years, of groups interested in the county’s progress. And it has been a desire of many older residents who do not want to leave the friendly community they have called home for years; sometimes, for all their lives.

But the fact remains that as we age, the challenge and pleasure of keeping up one’s own home turn into a burden, and finally may become impossible.

Mathews has been down this road before and earlier plans did not come to pass. We hope the latest company exploring Mathews will find it a great spot to build and to do business. If it does, the county will be an even better place in which to live.
