Editorial: Known quantities

Included among the candidates in Tuesday’s primaries are two faces familiar to Middle Peninsula voters—Gloucester at-large supervisor Louise Theberge and State Sen. Ralph Northam.

Theberge, who was first elected to the Gloucester County Board of Supervisors in 1999, is facing a challenger in the county’s Republican primary. While this is her primary opponent’s first bid for elective office, Theberge has 14 years of local government experience. She has a strong track record of supporting the needs of schools, law enforcement and other vital county services while, at the same time, exercising tight fiscal management. When the board went through an upheaval in 2008, Theberge remained a voice of calm reason, helping to guide the county back to a sensible course. Theberge has proven herself to be a community servant and deserves the voters’ support.
