Editorial: Know your school board—Mathews

Last week, we introduced you to the Gloucester School Board. This week, the neighboring county:

This month will be a busy time for the members of the Mathews County School Board as they put the finishing touches on the division’s 2014-2015 budget.

While the budget usually draws the most attention from the community, with a public hearing on the matter scheduled for March 11, there are plenty of other issues that are handled by the school board on a regular basis.

As a tight-knit community, Mathews County Schools relies heavily on its residents, who serve as volunteer coaches, provide after-school help through the Coalition4Kids Brain Boosters Club, and help out in the classroom. The school board also relies on Mathews residents to let them know how they are doing, and what they can do better. The board members need community input so they can provide the best education possible for the county’s youth. They can be reached as follows:
