Editorial: Know your school board

School budget season is here, with budget work sessions held late last month in both Mathews and Gloucester. A big chunk of residents’ local tax dollars is devoted to the education of the children in our two counties. Residents concerned about where their tax dollars are going, as well as the quality of education in the county schools, are encouraged to attend each school board’s monthly meetings. In Gloucester, the school board normally meets on the second Tuesday of the month at 6 p.m. in the T.C. Walker Education Center Auditorium. In Mathews, the school board meets on the third Tuesday of the month, also at 6 p.m., in the Brooks Auditorium at Thomas Hunter Middle School. Additionally, residents can reach out individually to each of the school board members. In Gloucester Heading the Gloucester County School Board this year is its chairman Anita Parker (Petsworth District) and vice chair Cindy Saulman (At-Large).
