Sen. Thomas K. Norment Jr., a Republican, is majority leader in that body. He represents District 3, which includes all of Gloucester, New Kent, King and Queen and King William counties along with Poquoson City, and parts of Isle of Wight, James City, Surry and York counties, and Hampton and Suffolk cities.
