Editorial: Know your legislators

Virginia’s General Assembly is in session. In spite of sweeping changes in the state’s top offices, the people on the floors of the Senate and House of Delegates who represent us have familiar faces.

This year’s assembly will have the benefit of a budgetary surplus left by the departing administration. At $2.6 billion, it’s the largest surplus in the state’s history.

There is never a short list of applicants for government funds, so we can expect to see some interesting budget-making in the weeks ahead.

Money and many, many other issues covering every aspect of state life will make the headlines in the weeks ahead. Stay engaged, and let your representatives know how you feel.

Here is information on the delegate and two senators whose districts include Gloucester and Mathews. The lines have changed with the recent reapportionment, and the new districts will take effect with the next election of the assembly.
