Editorial: Know your county board: Mathews

Mathews County currently finds itself in the midst of another budget cycle. From year to year, it’s the single-most important thing on the board of supervisors’ agenda. It certainly has the most direct impact on the average resident.

“How much will my tax bill be this year?” “Will there be enough money to provide for a quality education for my child?” “Will the county have the money to do _ (fill in the blank) this year?”

But the business of the county goes on every day, and residents have a say in the priorities and actions of its governing board. They have this say through voting for supervisors, and in letting them know how you feel about a given issue. If you’re passionate about a particular subject, communicate your thoughts and feelings with your elected officials.
