Editorial: Know your county board: Gloucester

Let’s say you are deeply concerned about a proposed use of land next door to your home.

Or you feel strongly that a very important item is being shortchanged in the county budget.

Or you want to vent that that there is no excuse for the litter piling up in a ditch along the back road that leads to your home.

Who do you call?

For best results, you call your county supervisor.

Gloucester County has seven supervisors, two of whom serve at large and five who represent the county’s magisterial districts. They serve four-year terms, and these terms are staggered so that every two years, some seats on the board are up for election.

The board meets at 7 p.m. the first and third Tuesday of each month, routinely at the colonial courthouse; the meetings on the third Tuesday are not, however, held in June, July, August and December. For more information, call county administration at 804-693-4042 or visit www.gloucesterva.info.
