Wednesday, July 22, dawned with a thunderstorm that knocked out power to part of Gloucester Court House, including the Gazette-Journal office. Wednesday is normally somewhat intense, as we scurry to get the paper together in time for an early afternoon press run. The Gazette-Journal is made up of many parts which have to work together smoothly. When the power goes out, everything stops. Dominion Energy’s initial estimate for restoring power was sometime between noon and 5 p.m., which cast a gloom over our idled staff. Dominion overperformed, as usual, and the lights came on to cheers at 8:30 a.m. We got out on time.Getting past the barricades to publication is not always so simple.
