Editorial: It’s happening

The Mathews County Chamber of Commerce is coming back to life. Membership in the revived group is increasing and the embers kept alive by a few during its years of somnolence are being fanned back into flame. To be sure, it is still a small flame, but it is growing.

The chamber, established in 1925, is rooted in a 1919 businessmen’s association and is certainly one of the county’s oldest organizations. For that long heritage alone, it’s so good to see it return.

But in modern practical terms, today’s chamber is a great place for business and tourist interests to meet, to discuss their goals, and to combine their efforts to increase the money coming to and staying in the county. Chamber literature expands on a county slogan and sums up the goal: Be Here! – Love it Here! – Keep it Here!
