Editorial: Honoring labor

And, while you’re enjoying the long Labor Day weekend, take a moment to think about the men and women who gave the holiday its name.
Labor Day is much more than just a day to enjoy a cookout and celebrate the unofficial end of summer. Or a day to catch up on all those Labor Day sales.
It’s a day where we honor the people who keep this nation running. They build our homes and cars, make our clothes, grow, prepare and serve our food, take care of us when we’re ill, teach our children, keep us safe, and so much more. Each of us is just a small part of it.
Everyone who shows up for work helps to keep us going as a nation. Based on data through July, there were approximately 163 million employed individuals in the U.S., marking a new record high.
If you punch a clock, and odds are you probably do, we thank you. This weekend, when you’re out at the supermarket picking up this week’s groceries, and you go to check out, make sure to thank the clerk for the work they’re doing. Or, if you’re rin...
