Editorial: Help our neighbors

The pleasant, scenic community of Deltaville has had a lot to bear in the past two years. Homes and a church are being rebuilt from the April 2011 tornado. Now fire has gutted the Deltaville Maritime Museum, and the town faces another huge challenge.

Like their neighbors in Gloucester and Mathews counties, residents of Middlesex have witnessed the steady disappearance of traditional maritime ways of life. Volunteers established the maritime museum ten years ago and gladly took in relics (some of which were saved from the fire) to record this lifestyle for posterity.

On the museum’s website, deltavillemuseum.com, officials offer much information about the fire and what was lost. And they say that contributions toward the rebuilding are gratefully accepted. Here is contact information; we are sure that helping hands will receive a warm welcome:
